10.12.15 Introduction to App Store project and plotting ideas in a group
Today we were put into small groups of 4 - 5 and were given two words 'connect' and 'disconnect' to use as a starting point to generate App ideas.
Our group worked really well as a team - everyone shared their own ideas equally and took into mind everyone else's points and in corperated them into our idea. We had all came up with the idea of an App that connects you with other parts of the world that otherwise go unseen, such as seeing posts by people in Russia, therefore seeing the way Russians live and document their daily lives. The app is aimed to be connected to Instagram so the layout is very similar and also has a similar way of working.
Another interesting idea we thought of (influenced by Snapchats 'Live' stories) was to make a section of the app 'Trending Countries' this section will include live events / holidays from around the world that other countries may have no idea about. For instance, England's Guy Fawkes Night is an event unheard of in many countries and England would be a 'trending' country on one of the apps pages. Another example would be 'Thanksgiving' in America.
We then started to think of possible app names. We firstly thought of 'Far and Wide' or F&W, but then decided that the name was too long to pronounce therefore would be unattractive to our audience. Since we ran out of time in the day, we decided to think of our own app names overnight and share with each other the next time we are in class as a group.
Today i created my last two app user journey shots. I found them much more easier to do this time round because i learned and developed new skills last time. It was quite time consuming getting all the images together into an equal and tidy grid - however i am pleased with the outcome.
Although unwell and unable to attend class today, i have thought of a few app names which i believe sound attractive.
Firstly, our app is going to be connected to Instagram, so my instinct is to use 'Insta' within the apps name to show a clear collaboration and understanding. Names i have currently thought of and liked the most are 'Instawide' and 'Instaglobe'. I personally think that 'Instaglobe' is the stronger name, as it is smoother to pronounce and makes more sense
After finally deciding the name for my app, 'Instaglobe', i decided to do thumbnails of what i could possibly include as my app user journey. I found this quite time consuming as I hadn't been to class beforehand due to illness and felt a bit stuck. However, i messaged some members from the group for some help.
Another tricky aspect of doing the app thumbnails was choosing 4 relevant ones, out of the many that i had designed! I asked some friends for some advice and pointers on which ones they thought were best which was beneficial to me.
Today i also got onto making the first two slides of my app user journey. I really enjoyed making the 'Sign On' page, i thought it was cool to actually see one of my thumbnails come to life. Also, i found the outcome of my app pages to be interesting as i have been working in a style i wouldn't usually work in. I have been learning new skills from this.
